Project title

Faux stained glass window

Description

For a French culture project, I wanted to make a stained glass window à l'une cathédrale français. I designed, laser-cut, and painted a frame from wood which I then filled with colored epoxy resin, creating a stained-glass effect.

The original conception of the windows. I completed the design digitally and vectorized it for the laser in CAD.

Cutting the wood frames left a lot of teeny tiny counter scraps along with the big regions. The laser sure was fun to clean up after this cut.

Seattle Makers closed to move to the new location the day I cut the frames; I had to frantically pack up the electronics lab as well.

I painted the frames black and glued them to clear acrylic substrates. Originally, the color was going to be laser-cut acrylic as well.

Filling the frames with 2-part epoxy, colored with ink. There was some leakage, but nothing unstymieable!

Some earlier testing to elucidate the optimum epoxy / ink combination to imitate stained glass.

I only sort of made a mess!
